WNEP Adult Nutrition Education Program

The Dane County Adult Team consists of seven Adult Nutrition Educators that work throughout the Dane County area. Meet our Adult Nutrition Education team.

Our Adult Nutrition Education Program is partially governed by the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Education grant. Programming takes place at various community agencies where 50% or more of the participants are eligible to receive FoodShare assistance. Nutrition programming consists of one-time groups, multi-session groups and learn-while-you-wait education.

The Dane County Adult Nutrition Program currently partners with the following community agencies:

  • Aberg Job Center
  • Child Development Inc.
  • Community Centers
  • Early Childhood Initiative
  • Family Enhancement
  • Food Pantries
  • Head Start
  • Interfaith Hospitality Network
  • Joining Forces for Families (11 sites)
  • Play and Learn
  • Senior Meal Sites (20 sites)
  • Southside Farmers' Market
  • WIC
mother and child gardening

The Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) grant allows our adult nutrition educators to conduct home visits to limited-resource families with young children. EFNEP learners participate in weekly home visits lasting about one hour each. EFNEP can be done on an individual basis or as a group.

New for December 2008!

The EFNEP Program will be adopting a new curriculum titled "Eating Smart, Being Active". This learner-centered curriculum is an 8 week series (90 minutes per session) with lessons focusing on planning meals, increasing fruits and vegetables, whole grains, building strong bones, choosing lean proteins and making healthy food choices. Each lesson contains food safety information and has an optional physical activity component with exercise bands. Participants will receive incentives at most lessons and a graduation certificate upon completion of the course.
